smelly clothes

So I've been using my soap nuts for about nine months now and I LOVE them so much. I also gave up the dryer sheets. Instead I use some spiky rubber dryer balls with some wool dryer balls (soon, the spiky ones will be bye bye, going to all wool ones soon. I found a seller on Etsy that I'll get them from). Initially I made my own. But I don't think I did it right. The outer layer fell apart on me, so I'm going to try someone else's handiwork. Anyhoo, the point is that when I pull my clothes out of the dryer, there's no distinct scent to them. They just kinda have a fresh smell, clean. I realized quickly that if I overstuffed my washer, there would still be a slightly dirty smell to my clothes, so I quit over stuffing rather quickly and that totally solved the problem. My dipees ALWAYS come out smelling fresh with our soap nuts too. I just love 'em!! I also love that I haven't had to buy any laundering supplies since last June when I got my soap nuts and starting using dryer balls. And I won't have to for a while either. Talk about a budget reducer!!

Anyways, the point is this... I pulled my maternity clothes out of the bucket they were in yesterday to get them all washed and prepared. These next few weeks will be about the time my tummy starts hurting with regular button jeans. I know it seems so early for maternity, but button pants really do cause unnecessary pains in my abdomen, and well, frankly, momma pants are just plain comfy in my opinion! Plus, I can see when I put my clothes on that my belly fat is shifting UP causing the awful muffin top (well, just making mine worse...yikes!). So I know my uterus is expanding even though no weight has been gained. I check. Obsessively. Even though I'm no where CLOSE to normal weight range pre-pregnancy.

I keep getting distracted here. The point IS when I pulled down my momma clothes, the scent almost knocked me out! They smelled like detergent and it was so strong to me. Yes, my smeller is a little sensitive right now, but the scent was uber strong and I actually wrinkled my nose at it (even though it was a good smell, except I no longer find it 'good smelling'). Just makes me wonder what kinda chemicals I was using on our clothes then. For a smell to last that long and be so strong, it can't be all good. So all that to say this... I am so happy with my soap nuts - how well they clean, how long they have lasted, how earth friendly and straight from nature they are. They're natural and I dig that!!

My next slow project (since it costs money) is to weed out as much plastic as I can from our house. At least the stuff that we use for our food and the stuff that touches our skin. I'm switching to all glass in the kitchen. It's going to take some time, but I think it will be worth it. Weeding out chemical-y stuff and making my house safer/healthier makes me a  happy Momma!!

And that's my two cents for the day!!

ps... I think I'm the only person in the world who spells Momma like momma instead of mama!! And I think it's awesome!!

pss... I think my nap made me a little loopy! Well, at least you get a glimpse into my strange thinking ;)
