When I was a kid, we spent many, many, many nights at my Nanny and Papa's house. My mom worked second or third shift part of the time growing up. I have as many memories in my grandparent's house as I do in my Mom's house growing up. We were neighbors with them. I loved it. And dream of living next door to my Mom too. Well, at least in the same town. That would be perfect.

I so clearly remember sitting in the floor in front of the wood burning stove in dim light. A piece of newspaper spread out in the floor. The TV playing some popular primetime show at the time. And Papa shelling pecans for us to eat. Fresh. Straight out of the shell.

Several days ago, I took my boys out behind our fence and we... well okay THEY picked up a bunch of pecans. Jonyn just ran around. I sat against the house and nursed the baby. The pecans brought back the childhood memories of being with my grandparents.

I love to bake. I love to bake totally from scratch. Mind you, I can't come up with my own recipes to save my life. But OH how I love to try other people's. So we rounded up a good sized bag of pecans.

Then just the other day, I sat in front of the TV, newspaper on the floor, and shelled pecans. A bowlful. I used them to make German Chocolate Icing. I made the icing to go on brownies using my favorite brownie recipe. I made these most awesome German Chocolate Brownies yesterday. So.Good. It was the first time I'd made the icing and it is so completely easy and super delicious. Of course, that kind of brownie is best warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Go on. I dare ya. Try the recipes and get some vanilla ice cream. You'll love it and be hooked and have brownie the next morning for breakfast. Like I did. Or didn't. Or did.
