there was an accident

We had a house full of people. You know, besides my little people. They fill a house all on their own.

We had friends over, it was our Life Group time.

I still don't know what happened.

All I know is that my oldest, Taylan, came walking into the living room holding Rex, his bunny. Only the bunny was limp in his arms.

I saw the look on my baby's face and knew something had happened. I had Daddy take the bunny and I held my boy. Tight as I could.

The tears fell. And fell. His shoulders shook as he sobbed.

And I tried to get an explanation, but everything was pretty jumbled up. It was an accident, that's about all we know.

We talked to Taylan about life, and briefly about death. And about being sad and how that's okay.

Then we grabbed a shoe box. And put him on top of the entertainment stand. Later, Taylan came in and wanted to see him again.

Stories were told of how we all lost our first or favorite pet. My first pet was a dog that got hit by a car when he was just a few months old. It stung. I was already an adult, sorta... I was out of high school and moved out.
Lots of tears fell that evening. Taylan took Rex into his room just before bed and prayed for him. I prayed over Taylan at bed time causing more tears.

My boy asked me, "but what if I can't sleep?" I told him to pray.

The next morning, the first thing my boy said to me was, "I'm not sad anymore."

We took the bunny to the vet right after school (since we live in the city, we did not want to bury him) and the vet said he would take really good care of Rex. We've known him for a long time and we were very grateful for his kindness.

My boy shed many tears for his first ever pet and his little heart was broken, but healing is coming quickly. And for that, I'm thankful.

And I'm thankful to all who said a prayer for my little dude.
