simple moments :: week 35

found after dark

i went in their room, after going to bed close to an hour late, they went to sleep quietly without any fuss, or even any noise. i have been wanting to walk in and photograph them sleeping, but just haven't taken the time. at least not until this week's prompt. typically jonyn, my younger one has his hands in kanyon's hair. i can see where he was hair twirling until he fell asleep.
what really surprised me was that kanyon had this little monkey with him. he has a frog he likes to take to bed with him. it's sweet and makes him so much smaller than his almost nine years. anything that keeps him small makes me happy.

i also love that these two want to share a bed, even though they have a bunk bed. five kids and a three bedroom house means shared rooms. they don't have to crash in the same bed, but they choose to. they really do love each other.

one thing i didn't photograph but never want to forget is what happens in the middle of the night at this stage in my life. my baby still wakes up erratically at night. i never know how many times he'll wake up hungry in the middle of the night, even at one year old. i still nurse him a ton. he still asks to nurse in the way a one year old knows how. i may not love waking up so much and not sleeping through the night. but i do still love being his source of nutrition; i love that he still wants to nurse in the middle of the night; i love his snuggles, the way he plays with his ears, and throws his leg up over my waist, and gulps so fast, and never opens his eyes, and sighs so deep when his belly gets full. i love that every time i walk in there to pick him up out of his bed, he lays down on my shoulder. i love our nursing sessions so so much.

next prompt: found with emotion

simple moments: previous weeks

simple moments is about finding the small things that make up our everyday, things we want to remember and be thankful for. it's the little bits of our lives that might not be remembered when we are gray and old. so we document it, on paper, with a photo, in a journal, through a blog. join me?

a few things:
1: anyone is welcome! document your marriage, family, kids, yourself. the point is to document your life, the simple, ordinary things that are often taken for granted, that one day, you'll want to look back on and remember. (read more here).
2: please link back to me somewhere in your post. next week, i will have my button working properly. maybe!
3: please add the link to your actual simple moments blog post, not to your entire blog.
4: please be sure to visit others around your entry and leave a few kind words.
5: you have until sunday to add your link.
